Sarah Palin Can't Name a Newspaper She Reads

I hope she don't run for President 2012

Las Vegas Sands Plunges on Defaults, Bankruptcy Risk

This concerns our Singapore IR. If LVS really file for Chapter 11, our local banks will be in deep trouble because of loan repayment uncertainty - default risk.

From bloomberg

"Should Sands fail to raise capital ``we would need to immediately suspend portions, if not all, of our ongoing global development projects and consider other alternatives,'' the company said in the filing. "

Tml, the banks will experience a sell-off. Nvm, anyway gambling is a vice.

Gold is on a long term downtrend

Gold has clearly peaked and is on a downtrend. It may test the high again but a rise will destruct demand for gold. The rise in gold probably got to do with the depreciation of the US dollar rather than concern for demand because Gold is indestructible and has no utility.

My previous post about Goldcorp rising is short-sighted. It is currently in amidst of a bear rally.

However, things will change, opinion changes, fundamentals changes.

More foreign students

More!!! More!!!

Singapore clearly has so many foreign students that it already overwhelmed the Singapore population of around the same age group and are students.

If you think 5 years back and compare with today, it has been a tremendous change. Even on ICA website, it is promoting Singapore as an education hub.

It is clear that the influx of students boost our GDP via increase in aggregate demand and human resource for our labour needs. The government clearly knows that there will be an increase in crime and unhappiness of Singaporeans.

Because we are already a nation of low risk, a little rise in crime as a trade off for high GDP may be something positive. But the rate of inflow has been too fast, because the past few years of prosperity created a demand for labour. But things are going to change, and at this rate of inflow, our report card will show higher unemployment.

However, Singaporeans like me, who are complaining of too much competition, should wake up our idea because the foreign students are highly competitive, less costly to hire and hardworking, generally.

However, the real competition are not from the private institutions, but rather from the 3 local universities. However, I believe that in the future, employment would be from the 4 local universities first. The rest would fill up the remaining spaces of unemployment. I have not taken experience in consideration.

We have been living too comfortability, mainly under our helicopter parents. I was one of them, I know. But I sincerly hope that if we really worked hard to improve ourselves, we would succeed. I think we do not need any helping hand, but a path that we can walk to where we want to walk according to our needs.

I may sound a little pessimistic but the reality is that the boom times, in my opinion is over for now. We have clearly been pumped by the US consumers and the evidence is visible now. Watch when they change their consumption habits.

DJIA

The DJIA is going to hit below their low of 7,773.71. Its a matter of time. What would happen in on the next October?

2009
No one would buy near Oct or in Oct itself. Maybe we will find a new low next Oct. Maybe it will be so low no one ever imagine it could happen.

Maybe the index will trade with high volatility of 2% every day in a sideway pattern. It doesn't seem to me there will be a bull market any soon.

---

No matter what, reality will hit hard, because the global economy is not going to improve so soon. But the market will always undershoot reality, and that is the time to buy. It is still not pessimistic enough.

Everyone loves Obama

I think there is a misunderstanding on the perception of what Obama really is. He will definitely tackle the financial crisis in the US and so on. But unlike Bush, he will not ask the American people to enjoy their American Dream or go to Disney land.

The rising unemployment will definitely make him lean more and more to the left. He will protect the American's jobs at the expense of other countries because we have been benefitting from them all these years.

So when people around the world ex USA all rejoice that Obama has become president, we must know that without Bush's spending all these years and their massive deficits, we would not be where we are today.

How do you think the deficits are going to be resolved?

US have to export more than it imports. They have to value add the economy. They have to increase taxes.

The best way I can see is to decrease the E/R. By decreasing E/R, the value of their debt will decrease, their exports will be cheaper and imports will be more expensive. This will lead to an increase in job creation via factories being built back in the US.

The negative part is that US standard of living will fall. Anyway with more and more bankruptcies and high personal debt level, it doesn't matter.

To watch: Gold is now US$740. If it ever hits 1000 and beyond, you know what I mean.

Nil

George Soros has faced tremendous criticisms in the past. Few people believed in him.

However, his criticisms of the Bush Administration have already become reality. Look at the American economy now and the report card of 8 years states : F9.

Chavez "Hi comrade Bush. You must have loved Beyonce's 'To The Left' like me!!! How about a date so that we can meet for karaoke?"

Dear Obama

Dear Obama Sir,

You are facing a mission comparable to walking on a floor of broken glasses. It will not kill you but it will hurt you. As you walk, each step will become more burdening.

These broken glasses are due to 8 years of the Bush Administration. They have been drinking and merrying with wine glasses. They encouraged the people to follow them in drinking wine with the glasses.

Now, you have to pick up the pieces and make America what it should be. But your 4 year tenor is not enough to change the situation. But I strongly not recommend an extra 4 more years of being the president because one will get used to the position and forget what they wanted to achieve when they first become President. This is human nature. However, your successor will benefit from the fruits of your labour if you could turn USA around.

However, I believe in cycles, including the world's position of power. From the Romans, Great Britain and to USA, the power will shift towards China and India. Therefore, you need to build friendships with them to assist and benefit their potential prosperity together.

God Bless America and you. We still need the US consumers, the China people dont like to spend.
